...and that's it for 2009!

Although I don't think that anything really changes just because it's a new year or even decade, I still wanna wish all of you a happy new year! I hope it'll be all you want it to be! Enjoy tonight's party if you're going to one! Well, simply enjoy whatever you're doing, especially if it involves sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll!

I also wanna thank you - especially the regulars and the guys leaving comments or using the shoutbox - for sticking and bearing with me. Your honest interest and friendly words are really keeping me going and are making this worthwhile!

Keep on rocking in the new year!

...and don't forget to boogie!

WHAT'S NEXT: I'm just uploading another DVD for you guys to start the new year properly: with rock music!

John Fogerty - Lucca Summer Festival, July 26th 2009

[Radio-Broadcast]
John Fogerty - Lucca Summer Festival, Lucca, Piazza Napoleone, July 26th 2009
You can't go too wrong with John Fogerty in my opinion. He's still a brilliant and dedicated singer and musician and he has so many classics up his sleeve, the chance that one of his shows will turn out boring is very small.
Compared to some other shows he has played in the last decade, he is playing not too many of his standards. Nothing wrong with that, nice to see he isn't solely relying on stuff written 30 years ago, although I wouldn't mind a set consisting of classics only! You know what I mean...
I'm sure you will enjoy this show, from the first powerful seconds of "Up around the bend" on you'll know that this is a goodie! Enjoy!!!!

Blue Cheer - Bonn, Harmonie, April 11th 2008

[TV-Broadcast]

Blue Cheer - Bonn, Harmonie, Crossroads Festival, April 11th 2008

As most of you will know, Dickie Peterson died in October. In his memory, here's a more recent Blue Cheer show. It was recorded in Germany, where he has been living for a while already.

I don't need to explain the importance of this band for rock music to any of you. The impact they caused with their first album can still be felt and who knows what we might be missing today if it had never been recorded (except for the great album itself, of course!!!). All of you who have seen Blue Cheer live will remember the powerful show and their very sympathetic front man. You could tell how much he was into what he was doing.

He'll be missed!!! Please enjoy this show and remember Dickie!

Ike and Tina Turner - Portland, March 24th 1974

[Soundboard]

Ike + Tina Turner - Portland, University Of Maine, March 24th 1974

Something a little bit different for you... When it comes to Tina Turner's career after her comeback in the eigthies - I couldn't care less!!! It obviously was a huge success with millions of people out there, but I just can't stand it. If she wants to cultivate a hedge on her head, fine with me! Sadly, that alone won't make her money I guess....

Whatever - this is a nice show, check it out! Tina doesn't join the band until "Sweet Soul Music", so don't let her absence during the first track confuse you! The crows seems to enjoy this a lot, I hope you will, too!

Before the decade is over....

Hey everyone,

I know I haven't been posting a lot this month, but there wasn't much I could do about it. Don't wanna go into details and bore you with them, but I wanna do things right and if I can't I'd rather not do (post) anything at all...

Anyway, here are some new boots for you! I'll try to start posting on a regular base again, but I have tons of stuff to catch up with, so forgive me if things are moving a bit slow at first - thanks!

Ka-boom!!! ...and thanks for voting!

Ka-boom!!!

I'm terribly sorry, but I'll have to take another break for a day or two. My computer obviously got infected by a virus from a friend's USB-stick. Damn!!! Gimme a day to fix this and I'll be back posting!

Isn't that just great? It seems that just when I started to feel okay again, my 'puter decided to get sick....

I'm posting this from a friend's machine, but I can't (ab)use it for uploads, of course.

Thanks for voting!!!!!

On a different note: Thanks to everyone who has voted for or against full DVDs or admitted being lost wherever! I really appreciate it. I honestly didn't expect that many people to vote! Cheers!

Consequently, my next post will be a full DVD, I think will probably post one every week or maybe every other week depending on the number and size of files.

Thanks again for understanding and participating!!!

P.S.: Don't worry, the pic above is not a pic of my computer! Gladly, most known malware won't cause it to catch fire!!!

The Black Keys - Chicago - Taste of Randolph St. 2006-06-17

[Great Audience]

Isn't it amazing how much two guys can rock if they know how to do it? Well, The Black Keys surely know how to rock! Their - among others - Zep-influenced tunes won't give you the idea that there are only two guys playing! The pics alone will show you that these guys are the real deal! Just wait 'til you've heard them play (that's in case you're not familiar with their music!).

A friend of the guys came up with the name, it describes people you can't trust. They get compared to The White Stripes a lot, but I guess nobody would do that if they weren't a two-piece. In my humble opinion, the blues influences in The Black Keys' music is much higher, but that's just my two cents....

This show was recorded at the Taste of Randolph St. Open Air in 2006. It sounds awesome, credits go to whoever taped this, you did an awesome job! Check this out and enjoy!

The Alarm - Toronto, RPM Club 3-01-86

[FM-Broadcast]

I gotta admit that when The Alarm from Wales appeared on the scene in the 80s I was judging a book by its cover, in other words their looks made me think they were another one of the loads of New Wave or U2-clone bands... There were many of them back then and while there were some really good ones, there also were a lot that just didn't rock.... At least not in my opinion.

Not much later I saw them play a few songs live on TV and was blown away!!! A guy I knew taped it and so I listened to it over and over again. These guys ROCKED with so much raw energy and enthusiasm I was speechless. Shame on me for judging them by some funny hairdos!!!! I learned a valuable lesson as a music enthusiast: Close your eyes and open your ears and heart for the music!!!

Anyway, I went to buy their records and they were great, too. In later years they changed their sound a bit towards a classic rock sound without betraying their roots, but with less success than they deserved... I also went to see them live several times - ah, good times!!

Here's a fantastic show from 1986, I'll post some more in the future. Enjoy!!!

John Mellencamp - R.O.C.K.S. in the U.S.A.

[FM-Broadcast/Soundboard]

I couldn't let you go without more Mellencamp!

Here's a silver boot from 1992, released on the Italian Living Legend label. I really like this one. The sound quality varies a bit on this one, as if it was copied from an audio cassette (it probably was!) instead of the master(s). It's still very enjoyable and it sounds as if John and the band are having a blast, too!! He's cracking jokes, laughs a lot and you can't help but get into a good mood yourself while enjoying this great boot!

There's a mistake on the cover though: Track 12 is not "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A." but "Crumblin' down" and 15 isn't "Hurts so good", but "Rumble seat"!!! I have to admit that I forgot about that when I was ripping the CD, so the MP3s are mislabelled, too. Please rename it for now, I may upload it again with the correct title one day....

This one goes out to Kyra!

Tracklist:

The Vines - ABC Studio 262, Sydney 27-04-2006

[FM-Broadcast]

Australia's The Vines have been described as "Beatles meet Nirvana" and while that's not too far from the truth, there's more to them in my opinion. Well, let's say they're simply a good rock band - no need for stupid labels!!!!

They were about to become super stars a few years ago, they were touring worldwide and their albums sold very well. They even made it onto the cover of Rolling Stone magazine:

Their singer/guitarist/songwriter Craig Nichols was thought to be the "next Kurt Cobain", also because he was acting strange at some times, told reporters crazy made up tales about the band and their future plans, some labelled him a psycho...

After he attacked a photographer and smashed her equipment and charges were pressed, it was revealed that he's suffering from Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism. The charges were dropped and Craig started getting treatment.

Since the diagnosis, The Vines have stopped touring, but have played a few shows in Australia. So here's one of the few chances to listen to them play live. This is a radio session they played in 2006. They're playing tracks from all of their albums, so it's a good chance to check them out in case you don't know them. For those who know and like them.... well.... it's a treat!

Enjoy!!

I received this show as one file, so I decided to split the file into the individual tracks, I think that's much more convenient for you! Of course, nothing's missing, it's the full show!

Tracklist:

Please take the time and vote! On the upper right side you'll find a poll, I want to know if you'd like me to post full DVDs on Bootquake... I'm talking about boots of course, I'll never post any official releases. I have quite a few nice DVDs you might be interested in, so let me know...

I can also convert the DVDs or parts of them to AVI files, if the majority of you guys thinks that's better. So let me know what you want!!!!

Feel free to post a comment on that subject, too! I'm looking forward to seeing what you think!

Getting back into action after a tooooo long break, here's the first of 3 boots for you today:

[Audience]

Bridge School Benefit 1, October 13, 1986

Although it's an audience recording - and that's obvious - it sounds okay, because it's an acoustic show so there's much less risk of distortion and such... Anyway, just check the tracklist and you'll know you want this.

If you wanna find out more about the Bridge School Benefit Festival, here's the wiki page.

The artwork came with it, it's terrible I know - a true eyesore.... I'll create a different cover later today and will upload that, too so you'll have the choice!

Update: Here it is..... Not my best work due to a lack of time, but I hope it'll do!

Here's another one of my fave boots! I really recommend this one, it sounds great and the performance is outstanding. I actually bought several copies of it back then in 1991 or 1992 and gave them away as presents because this is so great...

As on any release on the Good Karma label, the quality is first class, but no recording date or venue is mentioned. Well, I found out it was recorded in San Francisco in 1986, so I can give you that much info....

Update: I was informed by a visitor that it was recorded on 8-23-1986 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA! Thanks to the anonymous visitor for the info!

Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds - Guns without Roses - Paris 92

Espace Orano, Paris, France 09/30/1992

Do you remember this short lived band Izzy Stradlin formed after "leaving" Guns 'n' Roses. They released a pretty good self titled album and went on a worldwide tour. I went to see them play in a pretty small club back then and it was a good show, a lot of fun!

For those who remember and those who'd love to, here's a nice silver boot from 1992, released on Klondyke Records. It sounds really good. I'm not sure if this is a good audience or a soundboard recording.... Unanswered questions, so let the music do the talking!

The Gaslight Anthem - 97X Green Room Acoustic Session 2008

[FM-Broadcast]

Besides posting stuff from all the "old heroes" I also wanna post more boots from "new" bands like the Earl Greyhound post not too long ago.... It's always good to find some fresh blood! New doesn't necessarily mean bad or trendy - there are a lot of bands who are combining a (more or less) fresh sound with what rock is (or should be!) all about...

The Gaslight Anthem is one of them! They are a band that some of you may have taken note of when Bruce Springsteen joined them on stage at the Glastonbury Festival. They say that Bruce Springsteen has been a big influence for them, but they are combining their New Jersey roots with the power of melodic punk rock and a lot of feeling in their music.

Today I'm gonna post two radio sessions they played last year. Actually, it's just their singer Brian Fallon - who has a great voice! - playing acoustic versions of the title track of their current album "The 59 sound" and an amazing cover version of "Atlantic City" by Bruce Springsteen (surprise!).

Check this out, you won't regret it!

Leo Sayer - Trenton, War Memorial Theater 1975

[FM-Broadcast]

As requested, here's another Leo Sayer show!

It's from the same era and again, the sound quality is great. It may be just due to the mix, but the band seems to rock a bit harder on this one. Like the show I posted previously, this one's also full of energy and a great listen! See for yourself if you prefer this one over the other or vice versa. I think both are great and worth checking out.

Enjoy!

Not too long ago I posted Neil's show from Farm Aid 2008, here's the one from the previous year! John Mellencamp introduces him as "one of the most terrific songwriters of our times" and who'd want to argue with that!? Not me!!!!

Neil played a really great and enjoyable set, he's also talking a lot about why he's supporting Farm Aid and seems to be in a good mood and happy to play the fest. Yeah, this one's great!

The sound is great, makes you feel as if you're among the crowd enjoying the great music. That's what you should do: Enjoy!!!

Otis Redding - West Hollywood, Whiskey A Go-Go, April 10th 1966 (Late Show)

[Soundboard]

Well, I like to post something a little bit different once in a while, so here's a great show by Otis Redding recorded in 1966 at the legendary Whiskey a go-go in Hollywood.

A lot of you probably think of Otis as another one of those laid back soul singers etc etc... You'll be surprised by this performance, it's full of energy and a lot of fun, very enjoyable indeed! He's even playing songs from The Beatles and the Stones!

There's some tape hiss on this one, but it doesn't spoil it. Let's say it makes it sound more authentic, after all this is 43 years old!!!! As always: Enjoy!!!

John Mellencamp - Sessions At West 54th Street, Oct 2nd 1998

[TV-Broadcast]

After all the audio, it's time for another video! Here's a fine, energy filled TV-session from 1998! The kinda unusual setting fits the enthusiastic performance perfectly! I forgot to make a setlist, sorry. I'll post one later, but I remember that they kicked it off with "Lonely ol' night" and the last tracks are "Small town" and "Rain on the scarecrow".

Enjoy this video!!! By the way, I have seen a 28 mins version in some trader's list, so if you got that one already, get this one, too - it's five mins longer!!!

Update: Just watched it again, so here's the tracklist:

John Mellencamp - My Father's Place, Roslyn, NY, August 23rd 1979

[Soundboard]

A new month and here's even more Mellencamp for you... Some of you may already know this boot, it ciruclated quite a lot for a while. If you don't have it, get it now!

The sound quality has suffered a little throughout the years, sounds like a 2nd generation tape or something like that. In other words, the sound is not crystal clear, but still absolutely enjoyable. Definitely not a reason not to get this one! The performance is good and John seems to be in a good mood, too!

The pic above came with the boot (and was obviously chosen because the club this was recorded at is called "My father's place"), but I should point out that Harry (actually Harry Perry) Mellencamp was of course not John's father but his granddad. They had a very close relationship, he was the guy John turned to whenever he needed advice or someone to talk to until Harry died of lung cancer in 1983. This sad incident completely changed his father from being a dictator to a really nice guy, John recalled in an interview...

Enjoy!

Alice is the new "mascot" of Saturn, a German electronics store. The spots are shown on TV and in theatres. Check out the shitty voice they gave him when they dubbed this! Oh my....

Do the potential customers in Europe remember him? Well, some sure do, but a mayority??? I wouldn't bet on it! In other words, for most, especially younger people, he's just some eerie looking whacko appearing in these commercials....

Springsteen Interview added!

As promised I have also uploaded the Bruce Springsteen - Interview that was aired together with the Carhaix show I posted a few days ago. You'll find the link and more info here.

John Mellencamp - Carolina Shag

[Soundboard/FM-Broadcast]
More great music from John Mellencamp to kick off the day (I'll probably post some more stuff later today!)....
It's Halloween and everyone seems to post some very special Halloween stuff today so I decided to do everyone bothered by Halloween, Halloween posts etc etc a favor and stick to posting the same music I'd post on any other day of the year! This way you have the choice what to go for... All Hallow's Eve or just some good music!
....and good music is what you're gonna get. This is a silver bootleg from 1993 featuring both the Timothy White Session from 1991 as well as a show from Lincoln, Nebraska 1983. Two tracks from the latter where available on the "John's Garage" boot which is more or less the same as the "Welcome to the garage" boot I posted recently with different bonus tracks. Instead of just 2 you'll get 10 tracks here - enjoy!!!
Sound quality is excellent!
Oh yeah, please note the quite interesting set lists for both shows:
Tracklist:

PLEASE NOTE: I have just noticed I have accidently named Track 16 "I need a lover", too. Don't worry, it IS "I think I'm really in love" - my bad! Just rename it and enjoy!

Bruce Springsteen - Carhaix, France, July 16th 2009 - Radio braodcast

[FM-Broadcast]

While all of the nice audience recording from Bruce's recent tour are circulating all over the internet and beyond (and really don't need to posted here again), I thought some of you maybe interested in a few pro recorded tracks, so here's this nice little thingy from France:
The French radio station France Inter broadcasted a special featuring Bruce Springsteen this summer. Except for the songs listed below, they did an half hour interview and talked about Bruce a lot and played some studio tracks.

I have stripped this recording of the intro and outro for two reasons:
-it's all in French (which I don't speak and according to my visitor statistics most of you don't speak French either!)
-AND because of the studio tracks they played, because they're available on official releases.

About the interview, it's dubbed in French, too but in case some of you may want it anyway, I have uploaded it, too so you can choose if you want the complete package or just the music!

The live tracks were recorded on the day mentioned above at the Les Vieilles Charrues Festival in Carhaix.

Tracklist:
- Outlaw Pete
- Out In The Street
- Working On A Dream
- Seeds

- Johnny 99
